Dehradun: Police on Sunday caught a bolero with 25 cases of IMFL being smuggled from neighbouring states into Uttarakhand, though the driver succesfully escaped leaving behind the vehicle.
The police was getting information for quite some time about liquor being brought into the state from the neighbouring states and being sold in the local market on cheaper rates. The hill routes were being considered safe for the purpose and Kalsi Incharge DIlbar Negi had his eye on the same. He and his team stopped the vehicle near haripur koti road and the driver escaped into the forest leaving the car behind, who also left his wallet in the car. As per the IDs obtained from the wallet, he has been identified as Sumerchand, son of Gumnam SIngh and resident of Sirmour District in Himachal Pradesh.
Police recovered 20 cases of IMFL, 4 cases of beer, 48 smallers of Arunachal local liquor. A case has been registered against the driver and the car has been seized.
